The US Justice Department paints an ugly picture, saying the Democrat believed his sole authority to name Mr.Obama’s successor was “golden,” and that he wanted to use that authority to land himself a powerful or high-paying position, or that he would appoint himself to the position. It also contends he wanted to sell the appointment in exchange for a cushy job for his wife, one that could have her earning as much as $150,000 a year.

According to the US Justice Department Complaint, Blagojevich used crude terms to talk about the President-elect and the position he was in. The complaint says when consultants told Blagojevich to “suck it up” and do nothing, he responded do nothing and give this “motherfucker (the President-elect) his senator. Fuck him. For Nothing? US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald says there’s no reference in the complaint that indicates the President-elect was aware of Blagovejich’s actions.

The President-elect reacted to the news during a meeting with former Vice-president Al Gore, saying “Obviously like the rest of the people of Illinois, I am saddened and sobered by the news that came out of the US Attorney’s office today.”
