With days left before the President-elect takes the oath of office, the future First Lady is hitting the internet with a video message, asking for Americans to join her for a nationwide Day of Service this Monday. It’s not only the day before Barack Obama’s inauguration, it’s also Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and Michelle Obama included a quote from the civil rights leader in her message, saying: “If you want to be important — wonderful. If you want to be recognized — wonderful. If you want to be great — wonderful. But, recognize that he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. That’s a new definition of greatness.”

Michelle Obama calls for the nation to donate blood, clean a park, or volunteer at a homeless shelter on that day, and says she will volunteer at a DC home Monday. The site also includes dozens of events, from food and clothing drives to bake sales, across the Portland and Seattle areas not only on Monday, but throughout the holiday weekend.
